The SI Organization, a private defense contractor, late last month closed its acquisition of QinetiQ North America Services and Solutions Group (QNA/SSG) from QinetiQ U.S. Holdings, Inc, a move which scales the company’s presence to adjacent markets to include the Defense Department, the Homeland Security Department and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), among others.

QNA/SSG offers high-end systems engineering and integration services and software solutions anticipated to also provide the Chantilly, Va.-headquartered company with “opportunities to leverage research and intellectual property to increase innovation,” the company wrote in a press statement.

The transaction signals the formation of a $1.3 billion company, and the start of what some anticipate will be a season of consolidations.

“This transaction provides The SI Organization, Inc. with the scale and differentiated service offerings necessary to compete and grow in this market,” said Larry Davis, a partner at Aronson Capital Partners. “We anticipate that this consolidation trend will continue.”

The SI announced it was beginning the acquisition in April and also acquired Applied Communication Sciences in May 2013.
