    WashingtonExec Summer Reading List Series:

It might not yet “officially” be summer, but with rising temperatures beckoning the start of patio cookout season, WashingtonExec asked area executives which books they planned to peruse this summer.

Vishwas Lele, the chief technology officer at Applied Information Services (AIS), said he highly recommends two books: Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal by Nick Bilton and The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee.

The first book speaks to the idea of “invention” in the internet age — noting that nothing on the internet is truly new; rather, people use the internet to expand on ideas that already exist. The Brynjolfsson and McAfee text pinpoints strategies for surviving in the second machine age.

Lele’s company, AIS, is a privately held technical services company based in Reston, Va.
