Software AG, the German leader in big data, integration and business process technologies, last month announced it has acquired metaquark — a Berlin-based mobile applications provider — in efforts to bolster its own Intelligent Business Operations (IBO) and webMethods Business Process Management platforms.

The acquisition primes Software AG to maintain itself as a leader in Business Process Excellence by marrying metaquark’s mobile user, device and security profile management capabilities with its present capabilities to allow developers to build single versions of native mobile apps that are useable across many devices.

The forty year old company, with U.S. headquarters in Reston, Va., stated in a press release the deal will benefit the currently fragmented mobile market by letting developers and administrators create mobile apps that are managed by a sole platform but that can run on various software platforms.

John Bates, who oversees Software AG’s Intelligent Business Operations business line as a Group Executive board member, spoke to the future of mobility:

“More than two billion mobile devices will ship globally in 2014.  As this market continues to grow exponentially, application developers need an efficient way to create dynamic apps,” Bates said. “With the full integration of metaquark into Software AG’s IBO portfolio, developers can now build single, cross-operating system apps, testing and managing them from a single platform. An exciting capability is that real-time visual analytics generated by IBO-enabled applications can be scaled to several mobile or wearable devices.”

The new functionality — which includes application ge-fencing enablement, bi-direction data encryption and device remote wipe —  will ultimately position Software AG to deliver end-to-end solutions for organizations looks for mobile enterprise application platforms.

WashingtonExec also recently spoke with John “Jay” Johnson, the president and chief executive officer of Software AG USA, Inc., who shared his views on where the local tech industry is headed in the next five to 10 years. Read the interview with Johnson here.
