The American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) on Monday announced the launch of its 2014 Partners Program — a nine-month executive development program aimed at preparing government and industry leaders for their future roles at company officer levels and at the Senior Executive Service.

The program each year pairs 16 government professionals with 16 industry counterparts to encourage participants to collaborate and “walk in each others’ shoes” so as to cultivate leadership skills.

“ACT-IAC advocates for a closer alignment of the government and private sector in the federal IT community and the Partners Program embodies that mission,” said Kay Ely, 2014 Partners Program government chairwoman. “The differentiator of the program is that each government and industry participant is paired with their counterpart to engage in thoughtful dialogue and training throughout the year.”

The partners program participants are nominated by their respective government agency or company sponsors, and evaluated by a panel of senior government and industry executives on their individual professional leadership accomplishments and potential for future advancement within their organization.

ACT-IAC is headquartered in Fairfax, Va. and also has chapters in San Diego, Calif. and Denver, Colo.

“As the federal IT community begins to see more of the executive workforce move towards retirement, this 17th Partners Class will work together to develop critical skills to prepare for the assumption of leadership roles and responsibilities,” said Joe Dawson, 2014 Partners Program industry chairman. “With its unique education model, the partners program challenges participants to develop a true understanding of the leadership and decision-making skill sets needed at the SES and CXO level within government and industry.”
