Alfred Grasso, President and CEO of the MITRE Corporation, was recently named to STEMconnector’s “100 Leaders in STEM list.” STEMconnector selected honorees based on their commitment to the advancement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities.
Grasso joins CEOs from Google, GE and Johnson & Johnson to the exclusive list, which features CEO profiles and thought-provoking views on the future and the need for a diverse STEM workforce.
“It’s an honor to be recognized along with such accomplished leaders dedicated to growing and encouraging technical talent,” said Grasso. “As business leaders, we have a responsibility to encourage employees to share their time and expertise to foster STEM excellence. Our collective efforts advance the nation’s competitiveness.”
Grasso previously served as President of the National GEM Consortium board. MITRE has been a longtime supporter of the organization; a nonprofit that promotes the participation of underrepresented groups in the STEM fields.
MITRE hosts an annual Young Women in Engineering Day at its McLean, Va., and Bedford, Mass., campuses. The firm has a Nanotechnology Student Program and participates in Leadership Initiatives for Teaching and Technology, which places school teachers in an externship program at MITRE to help them relate classroom curriculum to real-world workplaces. All year-round, MITRE employees also mentor students in math and science, serve as judges in science fairs and help lead robotics and other science competitions.
