The Synergy in D.C. 2013 event took place recently at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. Hosted by Accelera Solutions, about 200 people attended the event and Citrix, NetApp and Dell served as the summit’s industry partners.
Synergy featured a presentation by Gunnar Berger of Gartner Technical Analyst, in which he focused on application, desktop, server and storage virtualization. The day also explored new advancements in mobility, including the XenMobile Enterprise and XenDesktop 7, as well as other technical demos of new solutions in other areas of IT.
Joe Brown, President and Co-founder of Accelera Solutions, gave his overview the event’s highlights saying Synergy 2013 was a “comprehensive overview of solutions and technologies that allow organizations to develop mobile work styles for their business, and ultimately really be able to develop a mobilization strategy to help their employees be able to work from anywhere on any device.”
With mobility coined as the hottest technology to hit the industry and focus of Synergy 2013, Brown talked a little about mobile pilot programs and the demand for its use in the federal government. “I think we’re going see a lot pilot programs over the next six to 12 months, but certainly there are some organizations that are going enterprise wide with this technology already. We have a couple of customers, both in the commercial space and the federal government that are using this technology in a big way already.”
Mobility isn’t the only technology to revolutionize the industry as of late. According to Brown, cloud computing is seeing rapid growth in the federal market space. Both technologies go hand in hand.
“We’re (Accelera Solutions) seeing quite a bit of desire from our customer community to take advantage of true utility based computing. Customers are also looking to mobilize their organization and create an environment where their employees can bring in the types of devices they want use. They want to be able to work in a mobile way all the time so they can work from home one day or two days a week, and they also want to be able to work in the office the other days they need to; all in all ensuring that both work styles are very productive and very secure.”
Technology has shaped this industry in more ways than can be defined. Brown revealed that he wish he knew before hand how much the industry was going to change with these recent technological advances.
“I would like to have had a crystal ball and be able to look into the future and know just how important and how relevant the technology was that we started with 11 years ago.” He added, “We’ve been in the virtualization space for 11 years and I just didn’t realize what a huge impact it would have on the overall market. So that would have been great to know.”
