The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia recently introduced the Innovation Fund, which is a new initiative that will provide grants to local schools and nonprofits. The fund is accepting proposals from schools and nonprofits dedicated to teaching and promoting STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in innovative ways in Northern Virginia. Currently, a grant pool of $25,000 is available with grants $2,000 to $5,000 being awarded per organization.
“Innovation is in the DNA of our highly skilled workforce,” said Eileen Ellsworth, president of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. “The region is poised for what’s next, and philanthropy can help get us there by supporting the work of inspired innovative thinkers in our schools, our communities, and our culture.”
The fund was established to recognize and promote innovation and support programs that nurture inventiveness, creativity, and new design across Northern Virginia. Starting funds for the Innovation Fund was provided by the J.O.Y. Fund at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and by the Steve Gladis Leadership Partners.
Grant applications are being accepted until April 15, 2013.
