New WashingtonExec Series:
WashingtonExec reached out to executives in the community for their insights on issues concerning the mobility industry. Can mobility remain cost effective while being efficient, and how does it reduce cost for clients?
Our first participant is Tom Afferton, Director of Public Safety Systems and Solutions at Northrop Grumman Information Systems. Read below for his take to our questions.
Tom Afferton:
“Our public safety customers depend on us to provide fast and accurate command and control systems, methods to securely exchange information with local law enforcement agencies across the country, and mission critical communications for a wide array of public services. We help to keep our customers more informed, connected and secure.
Mobile services applied to public safety can drive operational efficiencies:
– Officers can retrieve information from a vast array of federal, state and local data sources in the field, dramatically improving the efficiency of investigations by reducing the time it takes to exchange and analyze law enforcement data.
– Mobile services enable real-time field reporting, allowing first responders to spend less time at a desk and more time out in the field supporting public safety.
– The increased situational awareness enabled by mobile services provides the invaluable benefit of increased officer safety. The more officers know about the suspect they are about to engage and/or information about a building they are about to enter, the better prepared they are to effectively manage the situation.”
