WashingtonExec Series:
WashingtonExec asked the simple question to top area executives:
“If you could give your kids only three pieces of advice, what would they be?”
Today’s insight is from Aileen Black, Vice President of VMware Public Sector.
1. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Making mistakes means you are trying. The important thing is to use your mistakes as learning experiences. Remember the story about Thomas Edison. He tried to make a working light bulb several thousand times before he finally produced one. To him, he didn’t fail all those times before his light bulb actually worked, he learned several thousand ways not to make a light bulb. This is a great perspective in life, and in business.
2. Do what you love. Happy people are successful because theirs is a labor of love. That passion, plus preparation, makes for great success.
3. Don’t always try to do things right; do the right thing.
