Sotera Defense Solutions announced its acquisition of Software Process Technologies, Inc. (SPT).

Sotera is a provider of mission-critical technology-based systems, solutions and services for national security agencies and programs of the U.S. government. With its headquarters located in Columbia, Maryland, Sotera has expanded rapidly with over 140 employees. In 2011 alone, the company expects to generate over $35 million in revenue.  Sotera is an expert driver by its unique solutions focus, leading edge technical expertise and direct exposure to programs that address the pressing mission requirements of the cyber community.

SPT is a provider of mission-focused specialized software engineering capabilities to support the cyber intelligence missions of its clients.

“SPT, with a strong software engineering pedigree and expertise in content exploitation and defense analytics, combined with its strong culture of innovation, is a natural fit for Sotera and the company’s addition is a key element in fulfilling our vision to become a leading mid-size, mission-focused partner for our national security customers,” said John Hillen, Sotera’s President and CEO. “Adding SPT to our team doubles our presence in the Ft. Meade area and further expands our capabilities in the growing areas of cyber intelligence and cyber operations. We look forward to leveraging these new capabilities to provide an even greater mission support to our customers.”

Although the details of the contract were not disclosed, the acquisition will be completed this September.

“We are pleased to join forces with Sotera – a mission-oriented and customer focused prime-contractor recognized within the industry for its responsiveness and ingenuity,” said Christine Dockstader, SPT President and CEO. “Our leadership team is excited about the expanded opportunities for all of our employees through the combination with Sotera. Sotera’s established expertise in cyber security, counterterrorism and C4ISR are a strong complement to our competencies and will allow us to offer even greater support to existing and future customers.”
