The Washington Post and the Center for Non-Profit Advancement have selected Anacostia’s “Horton’s Kids” winner of the 17th annual Washington Post Award for Excellence in Non Profit Management.

Horton’s Kids is a mentoring, tutoring, and family services organization founded in 1991.

The Washington Post is giving $10,000 to “Horton’s Kids” so that one volunteer will be able to attend the Georgetown University Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership’s Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate Program.

“Horton’s Kids has developed and successfully integrated highly effective management practices into their day-to-day operations. Their willingness to continuously develop, evaluate and perfect planning, volunteer management and other practices has led to the same success all nonprofits and communities should enjoy,” said Center for Non-Profit Advancement CEO Glen O’Gilvie. “We are committed through our training and capacity building programs to ensuring that all nonprofits receive and replicate the best practices of our winner and finalists to benefit people and communities in need.”
