Blackboard Collaborate Announces New Features, System Integration

Blackboard Inc. announced this week that is introducing several new integrations to its Blackboard Collaborate software, giving institutions using its programs new capabilities, including new features for education course management systems like Sakai and Moodle.

Two of the new capabilities are based on the integration of Elluminate Live with Blackboard programs, giving Moodle users new capabilities like backup, recovery, and improved work flow, and allowing Sakai users to benefit from an improved interface, among other features.

“These new integrations reflect our focus and commitment to our clients, and our goal of supporting learning wherever it is taking place,” said Maurice Heiblum, Blackboard Collaborate’s president. “The integrations are also evidence of our intent to support institutions with an open approach and continued investment in improved technologies.”

Since Blackboard’s services are based on open architecture and open APIs, integrating Elluminate and Wilmba solutions has been relatively seamless, according to a Blackboard press release.

“he Elluminate Sakai integration has been a tremendously effective and easy to use piece of our LMS that draws new users in each semester,” said Ryan Allen, Assistant Director of E-Learning Systems and Support at the University of Dayton. “With these new integrations, our students have access to improved usability for launching sessions and recordings, a tool that integrates seamlessly and opens doors for collaboration.”
