Federal CIO Steve VanRoekel had a lot to say about mobile technology at the CES Government Expo held in Las Vegas, Nevada last week.

In step with the 2012 CES Government Expo theme, “Mobile Government Today and Tomorrow,” VanRoekel announced that he is launching a new online mobile strategy for citizens and contractors to post and submit ideas for accelerating the federal government’s adoption of secure mobile devices.

As part of VanRoekel’s initiative, agencies will now be encouraged to share and reuse mobile technology across agency lines.

Those with innovative ideas have until January 20th to submit recommendations to VanRoekel’s office, describing best practices as to how to implement mobile devices throughout the federal government. Here is the link to the National Dialogue on Federal Mobility Strategy.

“We have a really great opportunity to cut costs while increasing our productivity,” said VanRoekel at a CES Government luncheon.  “We have to use the size of the federal footprint and our buying power to change how we do things.”
