Reston, Va.-based Pragmatics announced Feb. 2 that its Agile Software Development Center has been appraised by a certified Software Engineering Institute (SEI) High Maturity Lead Appraiser at Level 5 of CMMI for Development (CMMI-DEV) Version 1.3.

Pragmatics’ Agile Software Development Center is a corporate-wide capability used in software-intensive projects across the company. The Level 5 appraisal was determined using the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI®) A V1.3 by a six-member appraisal team, led by an SEI-Certified High Maturity Lead Appraiser.

“The second consecutive appraisal places Pragmatics in a unique position among federal contractors,” Pragmatics CEO Dr. Long Nguyen said. “Process improvement and the use of industry-leading best practices are the hallmark of our organization. Pragmatics has pursued continuous process improvement with CMM® and ISO since 1999. Achieving CMMI Level 5 for a second time is the latest milestone in providing exceptional value to government clients through our Agile Software Development Center.”

CMMI is a capability improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their performance. An appraisal at maturity level 5 indicates that the organization is performing at an “optimizing” level. At this level, an organization continually improves its processes based on a quantitative understanding of its business objectives and performance needs. The organization uses a quantitative approach to understand the variation inherent in the process and the causes of process outcomes.
