DHS Office of University Programs Now Accepts Applications for STEM Summer Internships

The Homeland Security Department’s Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs is now accepting applications for summer internships in homeland security-related science, technology, engineering and mathematics for 2017. Interested applicants may apply until Dec. 7.

The Homeland Security STEM Summer Internship is a 10-week program that provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities nationwide and gives students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals.

These summer internships are offered in a broad spectrum of STEM disciplines and DHS mission-relevant research areas including engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological and life sciences, environmental science, emergency and incident management, social sciences and more.

Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses, and graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Research internships will be offered at:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center
  • U.S. Customs and Borders Protection
  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  • S&T Office for Interoperability and Compatibility
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency
  • National Urban Security Technology Laboratory
  • Transportation Security Laboratory
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center
  • Health Service Corps
  • National Security Technologies
  • Naval Research Laboratory
  • Energy Department’s National Laboratories

The application deadline is Dec. 7, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. EST. U.S. citizenship is required. Detailed information about the internships can be found here.
