BAE Systems, a global defense and security company, received multiple awards from the U.S. Marine Corps totaling to about $53 million for five separate delivery orders to provide advancements for RG-33 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles in the field.
“This work is important to ensure that MRAP vehicles deployed with our troops are enhanced to maximize mission effectiveness and are appropriately supported on operations to ensure availability,” said Chris Chambers, BAE Systems’ vice president and general manager of the tactical wheeled vehicles product line.
The awards will help update RG-33 Family of Vehicles (FOV), which are survivable, mine-resistant vehicles that meet multiple mission profiles. Amongst the awards received was an $11.8 million delivery of Skydex flooring and Vehicle Emergency Escape (VEE) window assemblies for the RG-33 vehicles. The flooring provides protection to the vehicle occupants, while the VEE window allows soldiers to remove the windows quickly in case of an emergency situation.
Other funding included constant maintenance and updates to the RG-33 FOV technical data package. $10.8 million of the $53 million is to offer instructors and field service personnel, while $7.1 million is for providing a universal MRAP maintenance workforce in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
