President, Coalfire Federal

As the defense industrial base remains under constant cyberattack, Bill Malone’s leadership has been instrumental in the development of Coalfire Federal’s CMMC practice. In 2024, Coalfire Federal continues to help the Defense Industrial Base achieve NIST 800-171 compliance and prepare for CMMC certification.

“As one of the first CMMC Certified 3rd Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAOs), we have guided many organizations through their CMMC compliance journey and have also conducted numerous Joint Surveillance Voluntary Assessments,” Malone said.

Why Watch

Malone is focused on continuing to position Coalfire Federal as the leading CMMC C3PAO. As the leading FedRAMP 3PAO, Coalfire Federal continues to fortify security for federal agencies’ ongoing move to the cloud.

“Our unparalleled expertise navigating security readiness as defined by FedRAMP, CMMC and other compliance directives is what makes us a deeply trusted partner,” Malone said. “We bring a practitioner’s perspective to our clients from our over 20 years’ experience helping to protect their missions.”

To address its growing business, Coalfire Federal has developed key technologies for tech enablement and automation empowered by its Compliance Essentials platform that can accelerate assessments and advisory services. With manual evidence collection reduced by up to 50% and internal compliance costs cut by up to 40%, it’s an accelerator particularly for those who need to coordinate multiple security assessments and maintain continuous compliance.

Additionally, as both a FedRAMP and CMMC 3PAO, Coalfire Federal has a unique perspective on advising its clients on the emerging concept of equivalency between FedRAMP and CMMC frameworks.

“Understanding FedRAMP and CMMC reciprocity can aid in the development of supply chain compliance strategies for members of the defense industrial base,” Malone said.

Fun fact: Malone grew up in the very small town of Elmira, New York, and graduated from the same high school that produced the first female space shuttle pilot, Eileen Collins; the first African American Heisman Trophy winner, Ernie Davis; and the well-known fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
