WashingtonExec Series:

WashingtonExec reached out to executives in the community for their insights on issues concerning the mobile industry. Can mobility remain cost effective while being efficient, and how does it reduce cost for federal government clients?

Today’s participant is Dante Ricci, Director of Federal Innovation at SAP.

Dante Ricci:

How does mobility help drive down cost while increasing efficiency?

Mobile technology can help increase productivity, provide timely business analysis and alerts outside of the office and also provide a whole new mechanism to empower citizens helpers.

The top three ways mobility could reduce cost include:

1. Increase productivity

a. Enable the approval of travel, leave and expenses from smart phones.

b. Enable field personnel to update or retrieve relevant information at the point of transaction (work order management, inspections, time entry).

c. Enable case workers to update cases with findings using audio, camera, video and/or write-up at the location instead of data re-entry at their office location.

2. Empower citizens

a. Enable citizens to alert government agencies at all levels about infrastructure issues, street light outages, graffiti, potholes, invasive plant species.

b. Enable citizens to utilize open API’s to build mobile applications that could help all stakeholders (without cost to government).

3. Enable anywhere, anytime access to data for better decision making

a. Empower all stakeholders via mobile analytics from the executive suite to front-line workers with real-time insight anywhere/anytime.
