Mittal Desai, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

FCW has named Mittal Desai among its Rising Star Award winners for 2017.

The publication’s awards program recognizes individuals in the first 10 years of their federal IT careers who have achieved beyond the requirements of their official job descriptions.

“Each year, FCW recognizes individuals who are early in their federal IT careers but (are) already having an outsized impact,” FCW Editor-in-Chief Troy K. Schneider said. “The 21 women and men listed below are a great reminder for the talent that’s being attracted to federal IT – and the next generation of leaders that is emerging.”

Desai, now chief information security officer at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, has worked for that agency since July 2007. He rose from IT specialist, to deputy chief information security officer, to interim chief information security officer before assuming his current position in October 2014.

A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Desai has been active in Young AFCEA Bethesda Government Advisory Council, serving as president from November 2016 until July 2017. He has also been active in the American Council for Technology – Industry Advisory Council, serving as vice chair of the fellows forum.

The Rising Star award recipients will be honored at a gala Oct. 19 and featured in the October issue of FCW.
