We at WashingtonExec are proud to announce Dan Harris, senior vice president and general manager of SAIC’s operations and planning for the services and solutions sector, as the new chairman of the WashingtonExec General Managers Council.

Science Applications International Corp. is a technology integrator in the technical, engineering, intelligence and enterprise information technology markets. SAIC has more than 15,000 employees worldwide.

The WashingtonExec General Managers Council is a platform for leaders to gain advanced and targeted knowledge on best practices for operating, winning and growing their respective businesses across the federal marketplace. Executive members are direct reports to CEOs/chief operating officers and run P&Ls of $100 million in revenue and above.

Harris is responsible for the management and alignment of approximately 12,000 SAIC employees; the development and support of the product management capability portfolio; the enterprise Resource Management Office; prioritization and management of corporate research funds; and the corporate Strategic Alliances Program.

“I am honored to have been selected as the new chairman of the GM Council,” Harris said. “I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in the industry to tackle unique general manager challenges and identify management approaches that aim to improve our industry practices, and ultimately further assist our federal government customers.”

As chairman, Harris is spearheading this initiative to address the specific needs of executives in the general manager role that are beyond day-to-day tactical and direct report issues. The council will collaborate on challenges such as the future of govcon industry, cultural implications of competing generations, the art of M&A integration, management of abstract verse tactical leadership goals, and adjacent market penetration.

Roundtable speakers will be selected from both the acquisition and delivery side of government, along with industry growth and branding experts.

Members of this exclusive council will meet six times annually to engage in intimate and off-the-record discussions. These roundtables allow participants to exchange best practices, identify mission challenges and discuss private sector needs. Each executive representative will also select one critical talent, an individual identified as a future leader within the member organization, to observe and participate in executive-level discussions.
