Travis Howerton, chief technology officer for the National Nuclear Security Administration, has announced his upcoming departure from the agency to join Oak Ridge National Laboratory as deputy director for the Information Technology Services Division. He will also join the C2Labs, Inc. management team as its chief technology officer.

Howerton, who plans to leave the NNSA by early May, will also focus on entrepreneurial endeavors as the founder and chief executive officer of Innovalysis Corporation, headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

“While I have greatly enjoyed my time with the NNSA and the opportunity it afforded me to make a positive impact on U.S. National Security, I am excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and felt it was the right time to make a career change”, said Howerton. “At ORNL, I will have the opportunity to join the management team of the premier research institution in the U.S. and to leverage IT as a strategic enabler for research breakthroughs in climate change, green energy sources and national security issues. In addition, at Innovalysis, I will continue to build on our past success by expanding our client base for consulting, bringing our state-of-the-art mobile app capabilities into new states/markets and delivering the most advanced solution in the market today for ensuring business accountability and results through our new BASIS software that is securely provisioned through the cloud, works on any device and is architected to meet the needs of today’s social workforce.”

At C2 Labs, Inc., Howerton will drive product strategy for the company in partnership with his former colleague, Anil Karmel.

“We are excited to welcome Travis as a core member of our management team, co-leading product strategy and direction as we aim to bring a new innovative cloud security product to market.” said Anil Karmel, C2 Labs’ chief executive officer. “The new offering we are developing will transform the way companies manage and deliver IT services in a secure, cloud connected enterprise.”

Based in Reston, C2 Labs is a cloud security and services startup focused on enabling IT agility by simplifying complexity through products and services.

ORNL is a science and technology laboratory managed for the United States Department of Energy by UT-Battelle. ORNL provides advanced scientific research and advanced materials, clean energy, national security, neutron science, nuclear sciences and supercomputing.

Innovalysis provides expert consultants in cloud computing, mobility and cyber security with a focus on the health care and financial services markets.
