Science Applications International Corp. is making some organizational changes, by getting rid of its chief operating officer role and streamlining its corporate structure.
SAIC’s customer-facing business groups and the Solutions and Technology Group will now report to incoming CEO Nazzic Keene, as will the company’s corporate functions. SAIC said these changes are part of an effort to adopt a flatter structure.
Outgoing CEO Tony Moraco will continue on in his current role and as executive transition adviser until July 31, 2019. During this period, Keene will be mainly responsible for the day-to-day operation of the business.
In explaining the changes, Keene said it was a strategic decision to have the customer groups report directly to her “to enable stronger alignment and be a more agile partner to our customers who face dynamic challenges and opportunities.”
“With the elimination of the COO role, we also have the opportunity to realign corporate functional roles to improve collaboration and operational effectiveness,” she said.
In tandem with those changes, SAIC also hired Michael LaRouche as general manager for the National Security Group. He will be responsible for SAIC’s U.S. Air Force, intelligence and defense commands customers and will report to Keene effective immediately.
In addition, Mark Escobar, former general manager of the National Security Group, will now serve as chief of business operations. He joined SAIC in 1999 and has held multiple leadership roles in program management and engineering.
