Google Public Sector has appointed Aaron Weis, the former Department of the Navy chief information officer, to serve as managing director of technology.

Reporting to Vice President Leigh Palmer, Weis will oversee the development and implementation of GPS’ technology strategy for Google Cloud Platform, leading a team of public sector technologists.

In his role as the Navy’s CIO, Weis played a key leadership role in cloud transformation. He has spent the last 28 years in industry and five years in government.

In the Navy, Weis oversaw strategy, investments and expenditures across information management, digital, data and cybersecurity. He has also held numerous positions across both public and private sector organizations.

In the private sector, he worked at Axalta Coating Systems and Sensata Technologies, where he focused on IT transformation and enterprise integration.

“Weis is uniquely positioned to join Google Public Sector to support its mission of accelerating digital transformation of our country’s institutions,” the company said in announcing his appointment.
