Erin Joe, a 22-year FBI special agent, is the new director of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center, an organization under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence dedicated to a whole-of-government response to cyber adversaries.
As senior executive of cyber operations at the FBI, Joe’s most recent role, she led the bureau’s strategy and response to nation-state cyber and cyberterroism threats. Joe also served in leadership positions in three FBI offices and four FBI divisions at headquarters.
“Erin’s background, experience, and wealth of knowledge make her a great addition to our leadership team,” said Daniel Coats, the director of national intelligence.
Joe is stepping in as the second director of the CTIIC, succeeding career FBI intelligence analyst Tonya Ugoretz. The CTIIC was established in 2015, and Ugoretz spent nearly 3 years as director.
Joe’s extensive experience in national security intelligence and operations fits into the CTIIC’s core mission: to build understanding of foreign cyber threats to U.S. national interests and to better inform decision making, according to the Office of the DNI.
The center brings together threat information from the network defense, intelligence, incident response, law enforcement and non-government sources, in efforts to share information and integrate community analysis.
