The American Heart Association will host its 31st annual golf tournament on Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Woodmont Country Club, in Rockville, Md. This year’s tournament is dedicated to raising awareness of heart disease in women and the Go Red for Women campaign.

The Go Red For Women movement works to make sure women know they are at risk for heart disease. Only 55 percent of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer, and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors, such as blood pressure and cholesterol.

“This event will focus on raising awareness that one in three women in the U.S. die of heart disease and stroke,” Event Chair George Newstrom, Dell Services Federal Government Inc. President said. “Raising dollars to help fund the AHA’s Go Red for Women campaign will go a long way to educate women about this deadly and silent disease AND the fact that it can be prevented”.

“We’re looking forward to an excellent day focused on raising awareness and much-needed funds to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke,” AHA Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Director of Development Jesse Garchik said.

The event includes breakfast, silent auction, course challenges, raffle items and post-event awards dinner. The cost to attend is $5,000 for a group of four.

This year’s fundraising goal is $350,000.
