Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) will host its annual Road to Independence Gala on Friday, May 8, at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The business attire event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and silent auction.

This year’s honorary chairs are John Toups, Lauren Peterson (Peterson Family Foundation), Susan Ross (Clark Construction), Bill Hoover (AMERICAN SYSTEMS) and Terry McCallister (Washington Gas).

NVFS is a local nonprofit that helps nearly 34,000 families and individuals every year access a multitude of critical services.

The program for the evening includes dinner, silent and live auctions, personal testimonies by select clients whose lives have been impacted by NVFS and a tribute to Mary Agee on her retirement after 40 years with NVFS.

This year’s goal is $1 million, as last year’s event raised $675,000. The money supports the 34,000 families and individuals NVFS serves annually find new paths to self-reliance and a brighter future through its programs and services in anti-hunger, early childhood, child placement, health and mental health, legal, housing, intervention and prevention, and workforce development.

More than 600 people attended in 2014, including business executives, community leaders and politicians such as Gov. Terry McAuliffe and his wife, Dorothy. This year, more than 700 guests are expected to attend and pay tribute to Mary Agee upon her retirement after 40 years of dedications to Northern Virginia Family Services.

Individual tickets are $250.
