The Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA will host the annual Advocacy Awards reception and dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. April 19, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Major Gen. Carl H. McNair, Jr. (Ret.), Gen. Mark A. Welsh and Betty Welsh, and Northrop Grumman Corporation, will be honored at the dinner for their commitment to advancing opportunities for children and adults with disabilities or special needs, including wounded warriors, military, veterans and their families.
Rosalynn Carter, founder of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving; The Hon. Elizabeth Dole, former U.S. Senator (NC) and founder of The Elizabeth Dole Foundation; and Adm. Mike Mullen (Ret.), 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be among the VIPs, government and military officials in attendance.
“These dignitaries embody the spirit of the Advocacy Awards, which recognizes military, government and business leaders for their exemplary commitment to advancing opportunities for children and adults with disabilities or special needs, including wounded warriors, military, veterans and their families,” Northrop Grumman Corporation Vice President and Chair of the 2016 Advocacy Awards Amy Caro said.
“The theme of the 2016 Advocacy Awards is Creating a Greater Community, which is what Easter Seals strives to do every day as they support individuals and family caregivers,” Carter said. “We are facing a caregiving crisis in the United States – caregivers work selflessly, and often invisibly. The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving is pleased to partner with Easter Seals to enhance their personalized, comprehensive and community-based caregiving services. I am thrilled to attend the Advocacy Awards to showcase the vital role of caregivers in our community and the need to support them.”
All proceeds from this event support Easter Seals critical programs throughout the region. Easter Seals provides services to ensure that all people with disabilities or special needs, and their families, have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities.
