When it comes to striking deals, who you know trumps what you know in the government contracting community. And with three years of WashingtonExec’s outcome and result-oriented networking programs and events behind us, I’ve decided to expand our networking offering with some supplementary content.
The WashingtonExec Roll Call is a weekly feature within the WashingtonExec e-magazine that leverages our connections to catalog the area’s happenings.

News at WashingtonExec:
WashingtonExec, with Presenting Sponsor Leidos and Platinum Sponsor Vencore, hosted the 2015 K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Symposium, attracting more than 2,300 children, parents, teachers and business leaders on March 7, 2015 at the Nysmith School.
This year’s theme, The Parent Factor: How to Engage Your Children in STEM, was designed to help parents who want to get their children involved with STEM activities, but may not know how or where to start.
More than 40 non-profit organizations, government agencies and corporations showcased unique and local educational programs. Children and adults had opportunities to conduct flight simulator competitions, participate in drone demonstrations, and engage with student robotics teams.
Dr. Evan Glazer, Principal of Thomas Jefferson High School, served as Keynote Speaker and gave the presentation of “The Tiger, Dolphin, and Jellyfish Parent — Which One is Best for STEM?” Lou Von Thaer, President of the National Security Sector at Leidos, served as the program’s co-Keynote Speaker.
Senator Tim Kaine discussed the importance of generating interest and passion for the science and technology fields early on in children’s lives. Former Naval F18 Top Gun Pilot Eric Schierling of Vencore and former Astronaut Kenneth Cameron (USMC, Ret) of SAIC served as afternoon speakers on how to make STEM appealing to students.
