The U.S. Army announced Sept. 3 that it has awarded Accenture Federal Services (AFS) two contracts with a combined value of $53.1 million to provide continued maintenance and operations support to one of the largest enterprise resource planning systems in the world, the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS).

Specifically, AFS will provide maintenance and daily operations support across several functions, including project management, help desk and application development. In addition, Accenture will provide on-site technical and training support to GFEBS at bases and installations throughout the Army.

The contracts will continue to help the Army improve financial accountability across the service. GFEBS is not an update of existing legacy systems. It replaces expensive and outdated legacy systems with a single, integrated and web-based solution for use across the Army and the Defense Financial and Accounting Service.

“Declining budgets are creating challenges and opportunities in the defense community,” said Joe Chenelle, who leads Accenture’s defense and intelligence agency business. “GFEBS is providing decision makers with better ways to manage the enterprise, helping the Army save money and increase efficiency with streamlined financial business processes.”

Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company.
