James Davis, Ph.D, JD now heads the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Board of Directors as chairman, the non profit organization announced in a press statement yesterday.

Davis, the former executive vice president, secretary and general counsel of Human Genome Sciences Inc. will serve a two-year term as chair.

“It’s an honor to be elected to this position by my colleagues on the board,” Davis said. “I look forward to working with the board to help advance the LLS mission.”

Since his start with LLS in 2007, Davis has held positions as vice-chair of the board, chair of the mission oversight committee and was also a member of the Therapy Acceleration Program medical & scientific affairs and executive committees.

A chronic myeloid leukemia patient, Davis has also served as a clinical trial participant and for the past two years co-chaired the National Capital Area chapter’s annual Leukemia Ball.

LLS was founded in 1949 and dedicates itself to blood cancer research.

WashingtonExec covered the area’s Leukemia Ball in the past. The 2013 ball raised $2.75 million and for blood cancer research and support.

We also spoke with KPMG LLP executive committee member Ellen Goitia and office managing partner Jerry Carlson ahead of this year’s past event. Read the interview here.
