The George Mason University Volgenau School of Engineering’s STEM outreach group at the beginning of this month launched a slew of IT and Engineering classes aimed at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics among K-12 students.

Class offerings include an Energy and Electricity Workshop, a Beauty and Joy of Computing Program, a Web Design and Video Production for Young Entrepreneurs class, a Microsoft Kodu Game Design Class, and a course on Cybersecurity Fundamentals.

Kamaljeet Sanghera, PhD, the executive director of STEM Outreach for G.M.U.’s Volgenau Engineering School, said the workshops have been successful thus far.

“Through these camps and workshops, our goal is to promote students’ interest in technology and engineering programs,” Sanghera said. “We want to enhance critical thinking in children so that they can become tomorrow’s innovators.”

Classes  are taught by GMU’s engineering and IT students and offered Saturday afternoons from March 1 until April 19.
