The 2013 Federal Forum recently wrapped up its second annual event on the future of Federal networks. The event featured Keynote Presentations on Data Center Networking and Networking in the era of virtualization and cloud computing.

“We created opportunities to collaborate on the problems and challenges that relate to how politics impact the environment, budgeting, continuing resolution sequester furloughs, how much money goes to legacy, and operation of infrastructure versus modernization of that infrastructure,” Brocade Vice President of Federal Sales, Anthony Robbins said.

The forum brought 17 sponsors and over 500 industry and government customers together in an effort to provide compelling ideas and assistance during challenging times. The one-day forum is in its second year and consisted of 50 customer meetings and six tracks, with two sessions each.

“At the Federal Forum we were providing compelling evidence of ways to handle big data, security, and ways to modernize the network infrastructure, “Robbins said. “We found that the Federal Government has spent more than $50 billion in the last six or seven years on networking. The Federal Government has spent half of a trillion dollars in that period and $50 billion of it has gone to

networking. We believe that we have modeled a way for the government to save more than $5 billion as it moves forward,” Robbins said.

With regard to future forum events, Robbins predicts that topics such as virtualization, software-defined networking, and networking in data centers will be hot topics. He noted that future discussion topics depend on current political dynamics, budgeting scenarios, and feedback from registrants and attendees.

The forum also featured collaboration, communication, and new insights into the future of Federal networks. For more on the event, click here.
