The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Greater Washington Region has named five area business owners as the 2013 Locally Grown Honorees. Winners will be recognized for building companies in the Washington region and making significant contributions to their respective communities.

“The Locally Grown awards allow us to recognize people from our community who are leaders in both business and public service,” said Merill Lynch’s John Hasenberg, Chairman of NFTE’s Advisory Board, DC Region. “We are thrilled to have such an accomplished group of honorees and we look forward to them becoming engaged as mentors for our students.”

Honorees will act as NFTE ambassadors and be formally recognized at the 16th Annual Dare to Dream Gala at the Omni Shoreham Hotel April 10th.

“Not only have this year’s Honorees made considerable contributions to the Washington region, each one has inspired us with their own entrepreneurial story,” said Tricia Granata, Executive Director of NFTE, DC Region. “We are confident that they share NFTE’s mission of providing programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school and leverage business opportunities while planning for their futures.”

This year’s Honoree roster includes Geoff Allen of ZipList, Inc., Theresa Alfaro Daytner of Daytner Construction Group, Alka Dhillon of Technalink, Inc., Chris Hertz of New Signature, and Rick Toren of QPID, Inc.
