    New WashingtonExec Series:

WashingtonExec reached out to executives in the community for their insights on issues concerning the mobility industry. Can mobility remain cost effective while being efficient, and how does it reduce cost for clients?

Our second participant is Stephen Oronte, Director of Network Services at QinetiQ North America. Read below for Oronte’s take on mobility in federal IT.

    Stephen Oronte:

    • Mobile technologies (lightweight computing platforms, wireless, MESH, etc.) combined with software to run in these environments will provide true “edge computing” capabilities. This will reduce bandwidth requirements and improve analysis processes,  shortening analytical timeliness,  and overall enabling superior situational awareness for the warfighter at a lower cost.
    • Once secure computing models and remote device management tools mature, developing trends such as BYOD will reduce hardware and support costs.
    • Mobility models will increase the amount of data, but can potentially reduce the server requirements and associated costs to build back-end infrastructure as mobile devices take on more of the networking and content integration.

You can also read Stephen Oronte’s interview with WashingtonExec Trends and Changes in Mobility.
