Roger Mody, partner at Monumental Sports & Entertainment and co-founder of SIGNAL Corp., has died, Monumental Managing Partner Ted Leonsis announced on LinkedIn.

“A successful businessman, a pillar of the philanthropic community, and a mentor to many. He loved his family, his friends, all DC teams, his cigars, cars and watches. Roger had flair only eclipsed by his immense grace and kindness. Please keep Roger and his family in your prayers. He will be greatly missed,” Leonsis wrote.

Mody was also an associate publisher of Inc. Magazine and the former chairman and CEO of SIGNAL Corp., before selling the business to The Veridian Corp., for $227 million in 2002. He founded and chaired The Mody Foundation, which provides higher education, health-based and athletics funding for economically disadvantaged inner-city children. He became a partner at Monumental Sports in 2011.

According to Mody’s bio, The Mody Foundation is actively involved in the Washington, D.C.-area philanthropic community, participating with the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Orphan Network, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Easter Seals.

Mody was also a charter member of the Redskins Leadership Council and a member of the MSE Foundation board of directors.

“I will always remember meeting Roger for lunch during the early days of WashingtonExec, when he generously shared his time, insights and encouragement. His visionary leadership and willingness to mentor others left a lasting mark on our region’s business and philanthropic communities,” said JD Kathuria, CEO and founder of WashingtonExec. “Roger’s influence extended well beyond his own achievements, and he will be greatly missed.”

An obituary with a list of survivors and more detail was not immediately available. Click here to support the Roger Mody Strength and Mobility Fund.
