Abnormal AI Earns First-Ever ISO Standard for AI Governance

Abnormal AI has earned certification under ISO/IEC 42001:2023, becoming one of the first companies to adopt the world’s new standard for AI management systems.

The standard, introduced last year, sets requirements for risk management, accountability and responsible development in artificial intelligence. Abnormal said the move reflects its commitment to AI governance in enterprise security.

The company also completed surveillance audits for ISO 27001, which covers information security, and ISO 27701, which focuses on privacy. Together, the certifications underscore Abnormal’s approach to governance, risk and compliance.

Abnormal, which positions itself as an AI-first security company, said early adoption of ISO 42001 shows its push to advance AI in business with trust and transparency.

Mike Britton, Abnormal AI’s chief information officer, said the company views trust as central to its mission, especially as security teams worldwide remain cautious about AI. With thousands of enterprises relying on its platform, he noted, Abnormal sees transparency and accountability as critical.

“Earning ISO 42001 places Abnormal among the earliest companies certified under this new standard. It not only reinforces transparency and accountability in our practices, but also positions us as a trusted partner for enterprises seeking responsible AI governance,” he added. “It’s about more than compliance—it’s about leading the way in how AI should be built and deployed.”
