The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 20, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 21.
Next is Lynetta Cheatham, vice president of talent acquisition and diversity, equity and inclusion at Acentra Health, and finalist in the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Executive of the Year, Private & Public Companies, category. Here, she talks about primary focus areas going forward, shares career advice and more.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
My focus for 2025 is to prioritize equitable leadership and development opportunities for all employees. This goal is crucial because fostering an inclusive environment ensures that every individual has access to the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to grow and thrive, which ultimately helps us fulfill our mission to innovate health solutions that deliver maximum value and impact for our public sector health clients. By focusing on equity in leadership, we not only promote diversity of thought and perspective but also create a more dynamic and innovative workplace. Ensuring fair access to development opportunities strengthens our commitment to empowering every team member to reach their full potential, making Acentra Health an attractive employer and great place to work.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
My team will tell you I often say, “Fail fast” and “Disagree but commit.” I encourage everyone to take thoughtful risks with the understanding that they can change direction and pivot at any point. The second quote, attributed to Jeff Bezos, is one of my favorite pieces of business advice. There will be times when you don’t agree with a decision, but once a decision is made, it is important that you commit to its success.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’m an introvert disguised as an extrovert! Most people know me as a creative who loves to throw parties and events. While I draw energy from those activities, my greatest energy and joy comes from quiet moments.
