The finalists for WashingtonExec’s 2024 Pinnacle Awards were announced Sept. 20, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person Nov. 21.

Next is Amy Orzechowski, chief people officer at RealmOne, and finalist in the HR Executive of the Year, Private Company, category. Here, she talks about recent achievements, shares career advice and more.

What key achievements did you have in 2024?

In 2024, I successfully integrated five companies across various geographies into a single entity, while creating and mentoring teams into a cohesive and agile People Services department. I spearheaded efforts to increase direct hires and implemented a unified HRIS and benefits plan. Additionally, our attrition rate remained below the industry standard, a testament to our effective employee engagement, career mobility, and support strategies.

What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?

My primary focus areas moving forward are to maintain a culture that emphasizes both mission accomplishment and employee well-being. I will continue to support the national security mission, while encouraging our employees to be lifelong learners and grow within their chosen career fields. These efforts are critical to sustaining operational excellence and fostering innovation in our work.

What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

My best career advice is to keep learning, surround yourself with accomplished and open-minded colleagues, and never let the tough days defeat you. Take time for self-reflection and personal growth, and always aim to listen more and talk less. These habits will guide your success and help you stay grounded along the way.
