The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 28, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.
Next is John Ustica, CEO of Siemens Government Technologies, and finalist in the Private and Public CEO (annual revenue greater than $100 million and less than $500 million) category. Here, he shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
A major achievement was the successful commissioning of the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay power plant. This project which gave sustainable and reliable energy to the base. In addition to the Defense Department’s first liquefied natural gas power plant at an overseas installation, the project included solar power and battery storage. This is essential in helping the Navy meet its energy efficiency, resiliency and climate goals.
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
We have an amazing mission to bring together the comprehensive industrial automation and digitalization portfolio of Siemens to accelerate our government customers. As the only cleared provider of Siemens technologies for the federal government, we’re able to serve our customers on missions of significant national consequence. Our unique ability to connect the real and digital world will help the government to potential at speed never seen before.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Be open to challenges and trust those who believe in you. They want you to succeed and will help you.

My hobby is boating, and I have a passion for helping others. If I can help others get into boating, then it’s the best!
