    Prabu Natarajan, SAIC

The finalists for WashingtonExec’s Chief Officer Awards were announced March 28, and we’ll be highlighting some of them until the event takes place live, in-person May 10.

Next is Prabu Natarajan, chief financial officer at SAIC, and finalist in the Public Company Chief Financial Officer category. Here, he shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.

What key achievements did you have in 2023?

In 2023, my team and I delivered the most record-breaking operating and financial performance for SAIC since 2013. This included a CEO transition, company-wide reorganization and large portfolio divestiture of a non-strategic business.

What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?

My primary focus areas include continuing to be a strategic partner to the CEO and the leadership team in setting, driving and executing the strategy; driving performance; and ensuring the company stays ahead of existing disruptors in the business, including artificial intelligence.

What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?

I believe that providing a safety net for teams to make mistakes is primordial for their success. I often use the following metaphor as guidance: “Don’t be afraid to break eggs and don’t ever get too high or low about the day-to-day things which will inevitably bog you down. Focus on the team around you and how to include the different point of views within every decision.”

Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know?

I’m passionate about my cricket team, and I enjoy spending time with my dogs.
