Next is Martha Mathers, chief revenue officer at OPEXUS, and finalist in the Private Company Chief Growth Officer category (Annual Revenue Greater than $20M and Less than $100M). Here, she shares key achievements, focus areas going forward, career advice and more.
What key achievements did you have in 2023?
2023 was an amazing year for our company and my Go-to-Market team. We kicked off the new year by relocating downtown to the heart of Washington DC and rebranding our company from AINS, LLC to OPEXUS, reflecting our commitment to bringing operational excellence to government agencies throughout North America. My team nearly doubled in size, complementing our strong Federal footprint with a State & Local team and brought on some critical leaders in the areas of sales leadership, proposals, marketing, and solutions consulting. All this combined to allow us to nearly double our year-over-year new bookings, onboard more than 40 new customers, and achieve net retention of 110%
What are your primary focus areas going forward, and why are those so important to the mission?
Our vision centers on bringing exceptional technology experiences to government professionals.
And as a company, we prioritize hearing feedback directly from our customers, using that input to drive our innovation process, and ensuring we are constantly prioritizing critical features and enhancements to impact customer satisfaction. When customers are happy, they look for ways to continue and expand their work with you. And that cycle is what enables my go-to-market team to continue to grow. With that growth, my team members have the potential to take on new roles with increasing responsibility, experiment in how we communicate with customers, and provide resources for OPEXUS to continue its innovation journey.
What is your best career advice for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Build a diverse network that encourages you to step outside your comfort zone and try new things. And within that network, prioritize finding some great mentors and partners-in-crime that can serve as your trusted advisors as you advance and evolve your career.
Fun Fact: What is something about you that most people do not know about?
I was a French major and love learning new languages and cultures. I pick up new languages relatively quickly and love testing those skills when traveling with family and friends.
