In this episode of “Humble Beginnings,” Richard Sawchak, CEO of Systems Planning and Analysis, joins us to discuss his upbringing in Scranton, Pennsylvania, his first job as a paperboy and the mentors who influenced his life.

He also recounts his father’s “humble beginning” as a banker without a college degree who ultimately retired as the CEO of a small regional bank. Additionally, Rich shares the story of his grandparents, who immigrated to the U.S. from Ukraine and settled in Northern Pennsylvania.

Rich shares his personal story, including lessons from key mentors in his life, from his father to his youth pastor. He discusses his transition from a large company, where he was one of 160,000 employees, to building the policy and process infrastructure of a smaller company with fewer than 150 employees

Finally, Rich discusses experiencing loss. His parents died in 2012, prompting much reflection and a renewed perspective. Tune in to hear how his journey has positioned him to retire by age 55, focusing on mentoring, giving back, and prioritizing his family.
