Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Akima

Joe Pendry joined Akima in 2018 and quickly made impactful and lasting changes to the company’s marketing function as well as its brand presence.

In the past two years, he has executed a transformative rebrand, which highlighted Akima’s unique mission and value proposition, along with a digital marketing effort recognized by LinkedIn as “best in class” for public sector awareness.

“We have shown the importance of a strategic digital focus in achieving oversized market impacts,” Pendry said. “A smart digital campaign is an equalizer for a brand that doesn’t choose to roll out a huge physical presence at trade shows or other events.”

Pendry attributes his success to strong relationships with Akima executive and operations leaders, along with a priority on supporting the company’s growth strategy. His tactics are driven by strategic objectives and backed by market analysis and detailed planning.

“We constantly search for creative marketing opportunities to support our growth strategy,” Pendry said. “I’m never surprised by the value of hard work in uncovering gems that are overlooked by others.”

    Why Watch

Pendry and his team won a national Addy award in 2021, alongside consumer brands like Coke and Adidas, for video content that explained Akima’s relationship with its over 14,000 Inupiat shareholders. Delivering engaging content continues to be central to his strategy.

“Telling a compelling story to the right audience at the right time is at the heart of everything we do,” Pendry said.
