The White House announced today President Donald Trump intends to nominate and appoint several people to key administration posts, including Bryan S. Ware to serve as assistant director for cybersecurity at the Department of Homeland Security.

Ware, who is DHS’ assistant secretary for cyber, infrastructure and resilience policy, succeeds Jeanette Manfra who joins Google Cloud in January. He leads departmentwide efforts to reduce national risks, with a focus on critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, federal security, countering cyber crime and bolstering the security and resilience of the global cyber ecosystem.

Ware is a former artificial intelligence entrepreneur. In 1998, he founded an AI company, which he led until it was bought by Haystax in 2013. After working as Haystax’s chief technology officer, he stepped into the CEO role from 2016 to 2018.

Ware began his career with defense contractors working on advanced technology programs, including the Star Wars program, early UAV payloads, and counterterrorism technologies. He has multiple patents in AI and mobile technology.
