General Services Administration executive Dominic Sale joined industry leaders to discuss current modernization priorities and challenges, emerging technologies and how to expand outreach into the private sector community.

The May 16 breakfast, hosted by WashingtonExec, was held at the Tower Club in Vienna, Virginia. Savan Group, a small business government contractor that specializes in management, IT and digital transformation services, sponsored the event.

Sale, the assistant commissioner of operations for the Federal Acquisition Service Technology Transformation Services group, was joined on a panel by the Savan Group’s founder, President and CEO Veeral Majmudar, Chief Technology Officer Dan Albarran and Chief Operating Officer Brandi Greygor.

“Bringing together senior government thought leaders like Dominic and executives from the government contracting community is what ultimately helps facilitate and create the opportunity for increased collaboration and knowledge sharing within our industry,” Majmudar said.

As head of operations for TTS, Sale discussed his role in supporting the group’s innovators and their work helping agencies build, buy and share technology that ultimately provides citizens with a better user experience.

Sale also laid out TTS’ seven priorities and focus areas: IT acquisition, identity management, infrastructure and cloud, multichannel experience (customer experience), data and analytics, accelerators (including agile practices) and intelligent process automation (robotic process automation and artificial intelligence). And on top of these priorities, TTS has three main objects: to scale and maximize impact and partnerships; fiscal soundness; and to create a single TTS by unifying its internal organizations and services.

And Sale is seeing success in areas where GSA is tapping into emerging technologies. Earlier this month, the agency announced the launch of a robotic process automation community of practice to leverage the technology and its ability to help shift the federal workforce from low-value to high-value work. He also referenced 18F’s Cloud.Gov, a platform-as-a-service designed for federal agencies to adopt cloud.

But the heart of his excitement for joining leaders at the Savan Group and industry professionals for a conversation around modernization is to tap into small businesses working to innovate government, because government can’t do it alone.

“With the rapid emergence of new technologies and the continued need to modernize, these types of events are timely and essential,” Majmudar said. “I want to thank WashingtonExec and GSA TTS for allowing Savan Group to host the event and we look forward to being a part of many more events in the future.”
