There’s a new head for the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity: Stacey Dixon, who’s had a 15-plus-year career in the intelligence community.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats on Tuesday announced Dixon will succeed Jason Matheny, who’s leaving IARPA as his 3-year term as director ends.

Throughout her career, Dixon has served in key science and technology positions, and her stints include the CIA, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. She became IARPA’s deputy director in January 2016.

Dixon holds doctoral and masters’ degrees in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. She was a chemical engineering postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota.

“Stacey brings extraordinary knowledge and experience to the position and I’m certain that she will maintain IARPA’s high bar for technical excellence and relevance to intelligence priorities,” Coats said. “I look forward her continued work in delivering breakthrough capabilities to partners throughout the national security community.”
