    STEM Symposium Schedule Released

    Get Tickets for the 2018 K-12 STEM SymposiumThis year’s K-12 STEM Symposium is expected to be the biggest one yet, with a full schedule that includes appearances by some of the area’s top STEM educators as well as corporate leaders and former NASA astronaut Cady Coleman.

    There is no admission charge for the event, which will be April 14 at Nysmith School for the Gifted in Herndon, Virginia. Registration is open here.

    Below is the event schedule:

    9 a.m. – Doors open

    9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Exhibit hall and classrooms open

    9:30 a.m. – Welcome and comments by Ken Nysmith of Nysmith School

    9:35 a.m. – Mission and agenda by Brynn Koeppen, editor-at-large for WashingtonExec

    9:40 a.m. – Kickoff of fifth annual STEM Symposium by Jonathan Moneymaker, president of Altamira

    9:45 a.m. – Ed Swallow, senior vice president of Civil Systems Group, The Aerospace Corp., introduces panelists Kristy Clark, Vencore; Renee Wynn, NASA; and Ted Davies, Altamira; for a discussion of “What does it take to be a superhero?”

    10:30 a.m. – Break

    11 a.m. – STEM awards presented by Tim Hurlebaus, CGI Federal

    11:10 a.m. – Introduction of keynote speaker and overview of Altamira by Ted Davies, CEO of Altamira

    11:15 a.m. – Superhero STEM educators and keynote speakers Dr. Ann Bonitatibus, principal of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology; and Dr. Tinnell Priddy, Academies of Loudoun

    11:45 a.m. – Q and A moderated by Ed Swallow, senior vice president, Civil Systems Group, The Aerospace Corp.

    Noon – Ben Franklin, America’s inventor

    12:30 p.m. – Break

    1 p.m. – STEM Nonprofit and Business of the Year awards presented by Karen Trowbridge, CEO, Trowbridge & Trowbridge, LLC

    1:15 p.m. – STEM Superheroes to Space: Keynote speaker Cady Coleman, former NASA astronaut; moderator Ed Swallow, senior vice president, Civil Systems Group, The Aerospace Corp.

    2 p.m. – How to Find Opportunities to Become a STEM Superhero: speakers Ann Bonitatibus, principal, and Anna Lulushi, student at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology

    2:45 p.m. – Closing remarks from JD Kathuria, CEO of WashingtonExec

    3 p.m. – Event concludes
