The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce on June 14 recognized Sevatec, Inc. Founder and CEO Sonny Kakar for his commitment to social responsibility and serving the broader community.
The Executive Leader of the Year award is bestowed on a Washington, D.C., metro area executive for outstanding contributions to his or her company and above-and-beyond leadership in the community during the past year, the chamber said.
Seva, a Punjabi word meaning “Inspired to Serve,” is a key pillar to the company’s culture. Since its 2003 founding, Sevatec has promoted an action-oriented culture of service—to employees, customers, taxpayers and the community.
Last year, in an effort to combat hunger in the D.C. area, Kakar launched the SevaTruck Foundation—the only local food truck registered as a nonprofit to provide free, hot meals to underserved youth and veterans.
“I am so humbled by what this recognition means for everyone in our firm,” Kakar said. “While our team has always worked super hard to serve critical national security missions leveraging the most advanced technology solutions, they always find time to prioritize community service through personal volunteering efforts and financial donations. This commitment to ‘Seva’ in everything that we do is the single most important discriminator for our firm—and one that will continue to fuel our on-going community service efforts.”
