Serco Inc. has been been awarded a contract to provide supply chain management services for hazardous materials for the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, with a total potential value of $101 million.

Serco will deliver planning and forecasting, data management, procurement, inventory and storage management, and environmental reporting for all hazardous materials, the company said.

“Serco has a strong background managing hazardous materials, on both ship and shore, and we are proud to have earned a new opportunity to grow our services portfolio,” said Dan Allen, chairman and CEO of Serco Inc. “This win demonstrates Serco’s ability to provide high-quality, cost-effective, hazardous material management solutions that optimize material availability and support DLA Distribution’s initiative to reduce cost.”

The contract has a 1-year base period and four 1-year option periods, and is valued at a total of $101 million, if all options are exercised.

Serco said it plans to use forecasting models that help reduce inventory and storage levels, which will help lower DLA’s overall ownership costs, including hazardous waste disposal costs.

Work on this contract will be performed at three Navy Fleet Readiness Centers in North Island, California; Jacksonville, Florida; and Cherry Point, North Carolina.
