    Salesforce.com Secures More Government Customers

Salesforce.com announced yesterday that more government organizations have adopted its cloud computing technologies.

The company received U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) moderate level Authority to Operate, so now government customers are able to use its cloud computing services for more of their operations, all without any hardware or software.

Hundreds of government organizations, including more than half of U.S. federal cabinet-level departments, have already adopted the company’s services. For example, the U.S. Department of State uses salesforce.com’s services for grants management, electronic medical record keeping and constituent-facing websites.

“Salesforce.com sees a tremendous opportunity for the government to harness the power of cloud computing,” Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, said in a press release. “We are delivering the same customer success to the public sector that we have brought to the private sector over the last 12 years.”

Salesforce.com is the enterprise cloud computing company that has changed the way companies collaborate and communicate. It’s also working to bring about Cloud 2 – the next paradigm for computing.

As part of the Cloud 2 initiative, TechAmerica Foundation formed the CLOUD2 Commission (which Benioff co-chairs) to provide the Obama Administration with recommendations on how the government should deploy cloud technologies.
